How does the bait work?

Eliminate the entire colony with Sentricon AG Termite Bait

Once termites are detected, they are baited using Sentricon AG Termite Bait. Termites feed aggressively on the cellulose content of the bait which is loaded with a chemical that is toxic to termites. As the termites feed on the bait, they will establish the bait station as a preferred feeding site. Because of the social structure and behavior patterns of termites, the chemical is easily transferred to all other termites back at the colony. Once infected, it is only a matter of time before the colony is eliminated, with infected termites returning to the nest via their tunnels unaware that they are about to be the cause of their own demise.

At this point you have two choices.

Use traditional methods that rely on disruptive trench digging around the house, drilling inside the house, spraying chemicals in and around your home, and hope that there are no weak spots that the termites can break through. If there is a way in. randomly foraging termites will eventually find it. The other issue with this method is it does not eliminate (kill) the termite colony.

Monitor for future outbreaks

Once your property has been infested by termites, it is at high risk of future attacks from other nearby colonies.

How will I know the termites are eliminated?

The size of the colony influences the amount of bait required and the time it takes to eliminate the colony, i.e. older colonies have a greater number of termites and hence take longer to eliminate. Trial work conducted in Australia in 2003 has shown the average termite colony was eliminated within 6 months of baiting.

By measuring the quantity of Sentricon II termite bait consumed, and noting visual changes to the termites, Pest Control Professionals can determine, with confidence, when a colony has been eliminated.
